Desert Cleanup in Abu Dhabi

Local municipalities, waste management companies and the awesome humans they employ are working diligently to keep our beaches and public amenities clean. Our aim is to raise awareness on the need to appreciate the work that they do. 

As an organization we have been running weekly cleanups and documenting our findings to raise awareness since August 2019 except during the lockdown. We are committed to addressing the problems associated with the waste which finds its way into our open environment and presents potential harm to terrestrial and marine life. 

Our activities aim to produce no waste to the best of our ability, and to make the most of resources we already have, so washed reusable gloves and sanitized buckets will be available for use. We will also have 70% alcohol based sanitizer available for use. If you prefer to bring and use your own hand sanitizer and gloves please do not hesitate to do.

Bring along at least 1.5 liters of drinking water in a reusable container. No single use plastic please. Remember to use the bathroom before you join us. Expect to sweat a lot. 

Avoid branded outfits of any kind please. Our community initiative is too precious to be hijacked by any brand. Wear comfortable weather appropriate clothes, adequate sun protection and beach-friendly footwear which will adequately protect your feet. 

Please plan to make the most of the resources you will be expending to get to/from the activity location by using your time outside to run errands or partake in other activities before/after. Carpooling is currently government regulated at 3 non-family members per car. 

Do take into account that contracting Covid-19 is still a risk so unless you have plans to be outside either way, please stay at home. Government regulations, including the wearing of face masks and the practicing of physical distancing need to be followed. 

Unless you are a paying member (ahlanwasahlan.org/membership) there is an activity fee of AED 15 which will go toward your annual membership fees. The activity fee is waived for parents of participants under 21.
